His directorial debut, 'Lullaby' (2018) was showcased at SXSW and won numerous accolades across the festival circuit. An experienced actor and personality, he has hosted shows, podcasts and pageants for the Miss Universe Organization since his teenage years. Maceo “Tendaji” Lester is a filmmaker based in Baltimore, MD. His work ranges from music videos, narrative film, documentaries and wedding videography. Lester received his BA in Mass Communications at Virginia State University. Years later he enrolled at the Maryland Institute College of Art where he received his MFA in Film. His love of music, sports and African American culture are very prevalent in his work. His work has been screened and won awards at several film festivals across the nation and internationally. Lester aspires to tell authentic stories that will substantially impact race/gender equity and help cultivate storytellers of the next generation.

The film is based on a true story. Film producer Alexandra Miles had been out of treatment for a few years. Back in 2018, she was at an eating disorder treatment center in Southern California. There, she met a young woman who changed her life. The woman who changed Miles’s life is Kendra Williams, whom she called “Blackbird” because she had a blackbird tattoo on her neck. The film is the story of these two young women and their recovery at the eating disorder treatment center. The film aims to expose what lies behind the disorder that plagues millions and demonstrate the importance of connecting with oneself and each other.
